The Curriculum at Birchfield Primary School
Intent
At Birchfield Primary our broad and balanced curriculum delivers the statutory National Curriculum but also provides for the needs and interests of all our children. It has been designed to spark pupil’s interests and offer a wide range of opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, so that all children can achieve academic success whilst developing their life skills, British values and cultural capital. Our ambitious curriculum acts as a vehicle to support all our learners on their journey so that each year builds to the next: children are able to recall previous knowledge, make connections, build subject fluency and deepen their understanding.
The Birchfield Family Values (Fun, friendly, fair, Attitude to: learning, cultures and beliefs, Morals, manners and motivation, Independence, inclusion, inspirational, Listen, leadership, life skills, Yes I can! Yes you can! Yes we can!) are integral to our day to day workings.
We empower our children to overcome barriers to learning and to develop a resilience to help them succeed in the wider world later in life. We celebrate our successes and strive to promote a love and enjoyment of learning, enabling all our children to become well-rounded, caring and respected citizens who can make valuable contributions locally, globally and to contribute to our world's sustainable future. When pupils leave Birchfield, we aim to have provided an educational experience which encompasses personal development across the curriculum through spiritual, moral, social and cultural opportunities, ensuring pupils are equipped to start the next stage of their education.
